Gain of function research conducted at the WUHAN LAB is still the primary suspect for the origin of COVID-19. According to Professor Emma Teeling, undoubtedly one of the world’s foremost authorities on bat genetics and bat diseases, no one has yet proven that bats transmitted ‘Covid-19’ to humans. To date, there is no published scientific research that can link any of the huge number of wild coronaviruses known to exist in nature to the unique strain(s) currently rampaging through the human population.
Speculation that the pandemic was triggered by a virus that naturally jumped from bats to humans continues to be promulgated without any scientific support. Meanwhile the actual source of the virus remains a topic of debate among bat geneticists and viral disease experts.
Bat researchers readily admit that bats are well known reservoirs for a number of potentially lethal diseases, including Coronavirus, Nipah, Hendra, Marburg and multiple strains of Influenza. Interestingly enough, bats seem to be immune from disease and remain extremely healthy throughout their life cycle. Impervious even to cancer, bats have a unique immune system which actually grows stronger through the ageing process.
Author Aisling Irwin cites Professor Teeling’s conclusions in an article entitled, Five Things you Need to Know about Bats, Disease and Coronavirus. Irwin writes, “Prof. Teeling was part of a team that recently published research that questions whether bats could be the direct culprits. Famously, the virus gains entry to human cells by latching onto ACE2 receptors on their surfaces. The team, led by Professor Harris Lewin of the University of California in the US, predicted that the ACE2 receptors on bat cells can’t be ‘unlocked’ by the novel coronavirus.‘ It looks like the virus can’t get into bat cells. It’s actually a primate disease,’ said Prof.Teeling. There’s absolutely no published evidence that bats can be naturally infected with Sars-Cov-2, she adds.“
The odds of learning the truth about the origins of Sars-Cov-2 (a.k.a. “COVID-19”), remain doubtful. If it could be proven that gain of function experimentation by technicians working at WUHAN directly led to the pandemic, the resulting public outrage would generate unprecedented calls for increased oversight and wholesale changes in the way bio-medical research is conducted all across the globe. But until the actual source for COVID-19 can be scientifically proven, (or admitted), bats should not be made the scapegoat for the pandemic simply because the truth is too hard to swallow.
